SURF SPOTS AROUND MEDEWI THE POINT

4 surf spots in walking distance

MEDEWI POINT

Medewi Point is one of the most famous surf spots on Bali - with one of the longest left-hander waves in the world.

The point break has three sections - inner, middle and outside section. When you start from the outside section you can ride through all the sections - which means you can ride the wave around 400 meters!

The spot works best from mid to high tide with small and big swell. The spot has some protection from the wind so it works even when it's a bit windy.

The ground is covered with stones with some sharp shells on it. Some of the stones are big and can reach out of the water when the tide is getting lower. Especially during low tide is also possible to find some sea urchins between the stones. Booties are recommended to avoid cuts. Ask your surf guide or us for the best places to paddle out and the location of the bigger stones.

RIVERMOUTH

Rivermouth is a right-hander wave next to Medewi Point.

The point break works best from low to mid tide. It is unprotected and therefore prone to wind. It works with small as well as bigger swell.

The bottom is also covered with stones. Some of them have sharper sections but unlike Medewi Point there are almost no sharp shells.

The best place to paddle out is from the beach on the left of the point break where almost no stones are. During bigger swell the shore break can be a bit tricky to pass.

IRON BEACH

At Iron Beach you can find left- and right-hander waves. It is located at the left side of Rivermouth.

The beach break works best from mid to high tide and with a swell from 4 - 6 feet up.

The bottom is sandy with some single stones next to the beach.

Depending on the conditions there is a slight channel to paddle out. During bigger swell the shore break can be a bit harder to pass.

DIVA BEACH

Diva Beach is another beach break which is a few hundred meters on the right of Medewi Point.

As most of the spots in Medewi it works best from mid to high tide. It also works with smaller swell but not when there is a stronger onshore wind.

When the conditions are perfect - which means bigger swell and offshore wind - you can catch some barrels here...

The bottom is sandy. Paddling in is possible from every part of the beach but if there is a channel it's the best to use it.

SURF SPOTS A BIT FURTHER AWAY MEDEWI THE POINT

BALIAN

Balian is also one of the more famous surf spots on Bali and around 45 minutes driving from MEDEWI THE POINT.

This spot works best from mid to high tide. Like Truckstop it is a good alternative if the spots around Medewi are not working because of small swell. At this days it can be a bit more crowded due to the location close to Canggu.

On days with bigger swell there are less surfers but it's recommended to just go there if you have very good surfing skills. The waves are powerful and not unusual to produce barrels.

The ground is sandy and rocky but the paddle out can be done from the beach.

TRUCKSTOP

Truckstop is a reef break on the way to Balian with left- and right-hander waves. To reach this surf spot you have to drive about 30 minutes.

Truckstop works best from mid to high tide and with a smaller swell with a maximum of 3 - 4 feet. This surf spot is a good choice if the spots around Medewi don't work because of small swell.

Paddling in and out can be tricky. You have to walk over the reef until the edge where the white water already hits you. Wait for a good moment and then jump from the reef and paddle out. On the way back you paddle until the edge of the reef and climb up.

It's recommended to visit this surf spot with a local guide who knows the spot. It's not yet mapped and protects you and your surfboard from scratches.
